Kanyegaramire Community Program

Kanyegaramire sub-county is one of the new sub-counties Bringing Hope to the Family has begun to work with commencing with this quarter of April-June 2017. The sub-county was facing a number of problems which were not being attended to by the government; it seemed that this is a forgotten area by the government whereby there is one primary school, one secondary school, with no medical facility. People would hardly access government services because of the long distances they have to walk.

Most of the children are not attending school because the available school is too far, so they resorted to spending most of their time in gardens helping their parents so as to produce enough food for their families. The rate of maternal death is also high in this village where most of the mothers die when giving birth. Bringing Hope has received a big number of children being brought to Home Again Children’s Home from this village because their mothers had died while giving birth to them, since the January 2017 Bringing Hope has received a total of 15 babies from this village and that is the main reason as to why Bringing Hope decided to reach unto this village so as to provide services like medical treatment, education, safe water and hygiene.  Currently, the organization has begun to enroll children in this sub-county since beginning of June 2017 and now it’s almost 1month and a half.

The services Bringing Hope has so far offered to the people of Kanyegaramire sub-county are: psycho-social services, distribution of scholastic materials like books, pens, pencils, and pads for the girls of the older ages. Construction of a medical facility is in progress and by September this medical facility will be officially opened to enable the local people to access medical services.

Great thanks to Duke University who has supported Bringing Hope with the construction of a medical facility. Duke University did send 10 students in May 2017 who spent two months in Kanyegaramire participating in the construction work.
